Higher History Course assessment
Exam and assignment
There are three parts to Higher History assessment:
- Two question papers worth 73%:
- 80 marks in total
- Exam time: 1 hour 30 minutes for each paper
- Assignment:
- 30 marks worth 27%
- Exam time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Paper 1:
British and European & World: (44 marks)
Each section (essay) is worth 22 marks and requires an introduction for historical context and a conclusion.
Paper 2
Scottish: (36 marks)
4 questions - one question from each key issue in the Scottish topic studied:
- Evaluate the usefulness? : requires the candidate to evaluate the origin, possible purpose, source and recalled knowledge. The question will come from the - Description of content*. (8 marks)
- How fully?: requires a judgement, source interpretation and recalled knowledge. The question stem will come from the 鈥 Key issues*. (10 marks)
- How much do sources reveal?: means you need to interpret the different viewpoints in two sources. Select the relevant points from the sources and explain why they are important in answering the question. Additional points of recalled knowledge are required. The question will come from the 鈥 Description of content*. (10 marks)
- Explain? : requires candidates to identify key points from a historical issue supported by an explanation linked to the question. The question stem will come from the 鈥 Key issues*. (8 marks)
