The badminton forehand drive

The forehand drive is an attacking shot that is usually played from the sides of the court when the shuttlecock has fallen too low for it to be returned with a smash.

Stage one

  • As the shuttlecock is returned, stand in position on the balls of your feet, with knees slightly flexed.
  • Body should be facing forward pointing towards the opponent.
  • The racket arm should be at a 90岬 angle with the face of the racket above head height.

Stage two

  • Keep your eyes on the shuttlecock.
  • Flex your wrist and elbow backward until the racket is parallel with the floor.
  • Step forward towards the shuttle with your racket leg.
  • Transfer your body weight from back to front foot.

Stage three

  • Keep your eyes on the shuttlecock.
  • Rotate your elbows and wrist to extend your racket arm quickly towards the shuttlecock, with the non-racket arm extended for balance.
  • Make contact with the shuttle in front of your racket foot at the highest point possible.
  • Drive the shuttlecock with a flat trajectory towards the intended target.
  • The racket will follow through pointing towards target.
  • Return back to ready position for the next shot.
