The Gloucester fly half talks us through the qualities that make a difference in becoming a great rugby player.

Use setbacks positively

I was very lucky. I was born with a little bit of talent thanks to my parents, but obviously it takes lot of hard work and determination. I have had a few setbacks along the way, but if you talk to most sportsmen and women they'll tell you that they suffered their fair share of setbacks. Try to use them to make yourself stronger and work harder to achieve your goals.

Don't give up

However bad your injury, there's always someone who's probably had a worse injury, but has made a successful come back. You've got to think about what you want to do. Injuries happen and you've got to just try and get on with it. Those are the cards that you've been dealt, and you just work harder and try and get back to where you were. Support from people around you helps you to do that as well.

Push yourself

Everybody who plays professional sport has got talent and skill, but it's that extra 1% that the great player puts in. The hard work and the sacrifices made. These are the qualities that make the difference. What I also remember is 'If it was easy to do, then everybody would be doing it.'

Aim for that goal

Have a goal, have a dream and try and do everything you possibly can to achieve them. If you can do that, then I'm sure you'll have a huge amount of enjoyment on the way.

Wherever you go in the world you can pick up a ball and join in with other people.
