Clubs in Hemel Hempstead, Newcastle and St Austell get together to show support for soldiers serving in Northern Ireland by sending them 6,000 cans of beer.

This short news item shows the gift being presented to a grateful Major George Preston, who hastens to add that his men are restricted to two drinks a day.

British troops were first deployed on the streets of Northern Ireland in 1969 and remained there until 2007.
