Under very harsh winter conditions and with the German Army pressing ever closer to Moscow, Anthony Eden visited Stalin in October 1941 to cement relations between Russia and the Western Allies and to discuss conditions in postwar Europe. In this talk made on his return, he describes his journey, the bravery of the Russian people, how they need our help and how different forms of government don't matter at this time. This programme was also broadcast on the Forces Programme.

Sir Anthony Eden's visit has been credited with helping restore Russian confidence in Stalin's leadership and faith in the Red Army. Until that point there had been widespread desertion and an estimated 47,000 citizens had been arrested under martial law. However, Stalin had insisted that the government should stay in Moscow and the Red Army should stand and fight.
