Tim Maby reports on the findings of Dr Ballard's team, who have been using a new underwater remote-control camera, known as 'the swimming eyeball', to capture footage of the wreck of the Titanic. Presenting his final report at the National Geographic Institute in Washington, USA, Ballard revealed surprising new video evidence that the iceberg was not actually to blame for the sinking of the 'unsinkable' ship. An earlier edition of the Today programme, broadcast on 16 July 1986, featured the prototype camera that recorded the footage described in this programme.
