A round-up of unusual activities around the country, from a display of underwater cycling by naval frogmen in Chatham to a carthorse derby on the Sussex Downs in which the winner's cup is presented by champion jockey Gordon Richards. There is also footage of the famous Good quadruplets taking part in a tricycle race, lovely scenes from a sun-soaked Cornwall and less lovely rain at the Festival of Britain.
Gordon Richards was knighted in the coronation honours in 1953, the first ever jockey to receive a knighthood. From 21,843 mounts, he rode 4,870 winners and was champion jockey 26 times. The Good quadruplets were the first in the world to be delivered by caesarean section and were subject to media and public scrutiny for most of their childhood.
