Can you sum up the project as simply as possible?
What’s Your Stand Up Style? is a personality quiz which predicts what your style would be if you were a stand up comedian. Once completed, you are rewarded with videos of the best emerging comedy talent fresh from the 2015 Edinburgh Festival.
What were you trying to achieve?
We wanted to find a fun, interactive way of surfacing new comedy and letting people share it. The quiz analyses your responses into a sense of humour profile and shows you comedy that fits. Don’t worry, regardless of your results, you can still get to see ALL the brilliant acts featured at the 91热爆 Comedy Presents live events.
What made you want to do it in the first place?
We were already hosting the events but weren’t originally going to be filming them for television. Working with the 91热爆’s Connected Studio team gave us the opportunity to something a bit different try a new interactive format.
By filming comedians and using the material in the quiz format, we were able to get more value from the event by bringing the great comedy to a wider audience.
How was it made?
This was a real collaboration between different 91热爆 departments and external agencies. 91热爆 Comedy sourced the talent and produced the live events, Connected Studio filmed the events and generally pulled the pilot together, 91热爆 iWonder provided the quiz engine, and an agency called Wink Nudge re-skinned the quiz and added extra features.
We also worked with a comedy writer, Gabby Crouch, to devise the quiz, the categories and write the questions.
How does making this compare to what you do most of the time?
It has been great to work collaboratively with Connected Studio. It’s allowed something to be created that is accessible in a really fun way. We’ve also been allowed to think outside the box in terms of how we can package comedy content in the future for 91热爆 online.
What do you hope to learn from this idea?
We were interested to know how quickly and easily this type of pilot could be made and launched.
We’re also interested to see if the quiz does actually match people up with comedy most suited to them. It’s not exactly scientific, but we are really interested to see if it works. And of course, for people to have some fun at the same time!
