We spoke to Development Producers, Alia Sheik and Nick Hanson, to tell us more about The Kraken Wakes 360
What is the Kraken Wakes 360?
The Kraken Wakes 360 is a video that works in 360 degrees either by dragging the screen on your desktop or by moving your mobile phone or VR headset. It allows you to explore the whole scene rather than just seeing the shots the director selects for you.
The video depicts a scene inspired by which was broadcast on Radio 4 in the Spring and Summer of 2016. The play is adapted from John Wyndham's classic sci-fi novel and tells the story of an alien invasion that causes catastrophic flooding across the world.
How was this made?
This was a collaboration between 91热爆 Research & Development, and the independent production companies Savvy Productions and Rewind. The actors were shot against green screens and the 3D footage was stitched together in post production. The background, special effects and archive footage was then added.
What are you looking to find out?
What most users will not realise is that there are actually three different versions of the video which are random played. In each version, the spacing between the characters differs, affecting how much the user is encouraged to look around the scene. 91热爆 R&D are hoping to discover if the level of movement around the scene affects the level of immersion within a story.
