Find out about Civilisations Explorer
What is Civilisations Explorer?
Civilisations Explorer is an alternative way to experience Civilisations, the nine-part series from 91热爆 Arts and Nutopia. We’ve chosen around forty clips from all the episodes and created nine themed journeys through them. There’s also a map of the world showing the original locations of all the featured works of art and buildings. If you’ve already watched some of the series you can revisit your favourite moments and might discover some new ones. If you’ve not seen any of it, this is an easy way into the highlights, with handy links to the whole programmes should you want to explore further. You can also find details of where these objects are located worldwide, along with links to further information about them.
Why have we made this for you?
Civilisations is a series of nine essays presented by three presenters, and there are themes that recur in different episodes. We want to ensure that as many people as possible get to enjoy this wonderful content from the 91热爆 in the way that suits them best. So we’ve tried to showcase some of the highlights that still work out of their original context.
“Explorer” was first developed as a catch-up tool for fictional series such as Peaky Blinders and 91热爆 Front but now we want to see how it works for a factual series. Civilisations is different to those two dramas, as it doesn’t have returning characters or continuing storylines.
Why does your feedback matter?
We know that not everyone wishes to or is able to watch nine hours of TV so we’re keen to find other ways to present great content. We also know that you’re watching on lots of different devices - TVs, laptops, phones, tablets etc. - so we want to hear how this works in all those different places. We’d like to know how your online experience of Civilisations relates to your TV viewing too. Did you come to Civilisations Explorer after watching one of the programmes or did it tempt you to watch one? Is it an added extra or an alternative to the broadcast version?
What have we learnt?
Having previously tested the Story Explorer concept on fictional programmes this pilot demonstrates how our model also works for a factual programme. By splitting a programme up into components, continuing 91热爆 R&D's work on , it lets people explore the programme through the different lenses of theme, presenter and location.
What next?
We’d like to offer more factual content in this format in the future and plan to experiment with Explorers based on various programme styles and other subject areas.
