The team from Casualty gave us a summary of the project
Casualty has been a staple of Saturday nights for 30 years delivering emotive stories relevant to the times. Robyn’s Story is an experiment that tells a Casualty character’s storyline on social media in parallel with the TV series.
Robyn Miller is a young nurse in the emergency department. She’s full of life and love for her job as a nurse. She gets on well with people and is loyal to her friends. Tragically, she hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to romance, but this year she meets Glen. As she embarks on the biggest year of her life we’ve set-up Facebook and Instagram accounts so Casualty fans share in the ups-and-downs in her life.
The posts are written and produced by the Casualty production team. We read the scripts and come up with ideas for posts and photos in Robyn’s voice, for social media. Whilst the TV team are filming, we wait patiently for breaks then run on set at take photos. It’s hard to capture natural looking selfies on a TV set; there's lights and equipment that we don't want in shot. We want the photos to look as if Robyn’s taken them herself rather than behind-the-scenes professional shots. We’re also posting about things in the real world such as Euro 2016.
On Facebook and Instagram you can follow Robyn, comment, share and Like posts. If you comment on Robyn’s updates she may even reply. We’ve also set up accounts for a few of Robyn’s closest friends and colleagues. The project’s running for almost four month until late October.
For Taster, we’ve created a Tumblr account pulling in posts from Facebook and Instagram. We’d love to know what you think so please Rate and answer the questions on the bar at the top of the page.
