Choose your own path in this interactive Halloween horror story created by a new young Scottish writer working with 91热爆 Scotland. We want to know what you think of it!

The Inside Story

We ask Louise Thornton, Development Producer for 91热爆 Online, about this interactive horror story.

Can you sum up the pilot for us?

It’s an interactive horror story made using Twine where you get to make the decisions. The choices that you make determine how frightening the story gets.

It’s exciting to try out a different form of interactive storytelling, working with a new young writer to tell a spooky Scottish story for a modern audience.

What’s Twine?

Twine is a free online tool that anyone can use to make interactive stories.

Why have you made this pilot?

We wanted to discover if text based content could have as much impact as video in a storytelling form and also if making choices in a story was enjoyable for the audience.

We were trying to create a story that would be a great experience for online and for mobile but wouldn’t be too complex or use up too much data if you were out and about.

Has it turned out as you’d expected?

On the whole we are pleased with the way the story plays and looks. This story was turned around quite quickly so there are things we feel we could develop further in future projects, like better use of audio and visuals.

How did the idea come about?

It came from the work 91热爆 Scotland have been doing with young emerging talent. We worked with the writer, Shelley Matherson, to realise her story in an interactive format, with visuals and audio to create more atmosphere.

It’s been great to work with a new writing talent and to hear a young Scottish voice coming through on the 91热爆.

What do you think the Taster audience will make of it?

We hope people will enjoy playing the story – and maybe even play it more than once to find out what happens if you make different choices.

We’ll be looking at the feedback on this format and deciding where else we can apply this style of storytelling.
