Liverpool didn't manage to get the four goals they needed to top Group A, but they did manage a morale-boosting victory over a previously unbeaten Napoli.

Tottenham played a big old game of hokey cokey in Group D. They were in, out and shaking it all about before Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg ran through to fire them into the knock-out rounds as group winners.

Tottenham assistant boss Cristian Stellini to BT Sport: "The performance, we have to analyse. We repeat the same routine of the last three or four games - not starting well in the first half. We didn't use our intensity in the first half. We let them play too much in our half and we lost the pitch. They had control of the game.

"In the second half when we changed to 3-5-2 we had more control of the game. We played a good second half."

On whether he enjoyed being in charge: "Yeah. I enjoyed it when we won. These guys deserve to win because we were a good team. We have to show it for 90 minutes. We have to work to show again for the whole game and not to lose one half every game.

"I just spoke with Antonio. He's tired because to watch from the crowd is not normal. He wasted a lot of energy. It's better to stay on the touchline because you live the game like the players are doing."

Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BT Sport: "I would have really enjoyed the game even without the goals. We showed tonight a reaction. Being compact makes all the difference. We have challenges in the right placed and are difficult to play against. You see what Napoli are able to do in the moment. It was a really good game for us. Lot of courage and bravery. Going into challenges and making a fight of it. Two set-pieces bring us the points and 15 points in a Champions League group is insane.

"You can only recover the ball quickly when you lose it. They are a football playing side. You need to be compact. In the first game with Napoli we were too wide and did not react to what they did. That was much better tonight.

"I heard it was some technical issues [for the delay on VAR for the first goal]. It is tough but in the end it is good for us. Three times in our direction. I did not see the first goal. After a long time they seem to have made the right call."

Not only was this Klopp's 100th Champions League game, it also took him to 400 games for Liverpool as manager.

The German becomes just the fourth manager to reach this milestone in the club’s history (also Tom Watson, Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley). Klopp has more wins (244) than any of the other three from their first 400 in charge.

On that century of CL games, he is the seventh manager to take charge of that many or more in the competition. Only Pep Guardiola (61) has more wins from his first 100 games in charge in the competition than Klopp (58).

Napoli are used to tasting defeat this season. This was their first in 18 games. They are familiar with losing in England, though.

The Italian side have never won away from home against an English team in European competition, with the Italian side failing on 12 occasions to date (D3 L9).

Rangers have finished with the worst Champions League group record ever - no points and a goal difference of -20.

Viktoria Plzen also lost all six games with a goal difference of -19.

The worst record until today in the Champions League group stages was Dinamo Zagreb in 2011-12 with no points and -19 goal difference.

So Jurgen Klopp wins his 100th Champions League match as a manager. He has won 46, lost 28 and drawn 26.

The Reds have now won five successive Champions League matches for the third time, after a run of seven in 2021-22 and a run of five in 2007-08.

Eintracht Frankfurt are the second Champions League debutant team (out of 12) since 2017-18 to reach the knockout stages.

The other was Atalanta in 2019-20. They got to the quarter-finals.

Tottenham goalscorer Clement Lenglet speaking to BT Sport: "We didn't play well in the first half maybe because we didn't know if we had to attack or defend and maybe it was not good to play this type of first half.

"After we speak in the locker room and tell what we have to tell, we started the second half with more power and personality to go to score and we played a very, very good second half.

"I am happy to score here, more for the team and we needed one point and it's very important to win these type of game. I'm happy because it's an important goal for the team."

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris: "To be honest, we expected that type of game. It was a very difficult place to deal with and I think we showed great personality.

"In the second half we had a good game and Clement Lenglet scored an important goal in France in front of the French people and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is so important to confirm that top of the group.

"It was a tough night, a great battle and even more psychological battle because we could feel in the first half a team was playing without the fear to lose, it was Marseille, and in the second half we had a team that was fearing to lose and it was us.

"Also I believe that when we had to face difficulties, we showed great personality and it's a great result.

"Without our coach it was even more difficult for him in the stand and it's a great winning team - that's the most important thing."

Liverpool

Liverpool goal scorer Mohamed Salah speaking to BT Sport: "To win against one of the best teams in the world is the best feeling.

"We have to carry it on, it's a good result which will give us more confidence for in the cup and league."

On the long VAR wait: "Honestly I didn't know it was my goal because the ball was in. Thanks for confirming that!

"Anyone can score, the most important thing is the team.

"I think it's important that we won today.

"We played a good game, we were quicker on the ball and recovered the ball quick too.

"We aren't doing great in the league, but this will push us and then hopefully we can win more."

Uefa has named Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris as the man of the match. The France keeper made three saves in his homeland.

Bayern Munich, with their 2-0 win over Inter Milan, made it six wins from six.

It is the 11th time that has happened to a team with Bayern Munich doing it in 2019, 2021 and now. They are the first team to do it twice in a row.

The only time a team has done that and won the trophy was Bayern in 2019-20.

The French side went all out for a winner to send them into the Champions League last 16 - and that ended up costing them a Europa League place right at the death.
