Bayern Munich are unbeaten in their last 18 away Champions League matches (W14 D4), the longest undefeated away run in the history of the tournament.

They have won their opening match in each of their last 17 Champions League seasons, stretching back to 2003-04 – they have won these games by an aggregate score of 42-2.

Bayern are unbeaten in six games this season under Julian Nagelsmann.

The last time these European giants met, Bayern won 8-2 in the 2019-20 quarter-finals, Barca’s heaviest defeat since 1951.

Barcelona have lost seven matches against Bayern Munich, three more than they have against any other side in Europe (P11 W2 D2 L7).

The last time they met in the group stages was 1998-99. That was one of only three times Barcelona have ever gone out in the groups.

Barcelona have not lost their opening match in a Champions League campaign since... Newcastle United beat them 3-2 at St James' Park in 1997-98.

Tino Asprilla scored a hat-trick that day. As every Newcastle fan I know mentions every time Barcelona come up in conversation.

Chelsea did very well out of the Champions League draw. The holders are in a group with the lowest ranked second seed (Juventus), lowest ranked third seed (Zenit) and second lowest ranked fourth seed (Malmo). This 'luck of the draw' has boosted Chelsea's chance of progress to the knockout phase from 81% to 92% making them the second most likely team to go through.

Chelsea are given 7.2% chance of winning a second successive Champions League, making them fifth favourites for this year's competition.
