McNamara was sacked by Dundee United

Former Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara is in the running to be the new manager of English League Two club York City.

The 42-year-old, who was sacked by the Tannadice outfit last month, was interviewed at York last week.

The Minstermen are third bottom in the fourth tier of English football.

They sacked their manager, Russ Wilcox, last Monday and lost 1-0 on Saturday to Crawley Town in their first match under caretaker Richard Cresswell.

That stretched their run without a win to 10 games.

Former Dunfermline Athletic, Celtic, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aberdeen, Falkirk and Partick Thistle full-back McNamara was capped 33 times by Scotland.

He went on to manage Thistle for two years from 2011, leaving for United with his side sitting second in Scotland's second tier.

However, after United finished fourth then fifth in the Scottish Premiership during his first two seasons, a poor start to the present campaign led to McNamara's departure with his side second bottom of the table.
