On-loan Brighton winger Mustapha Carayol has signed a two-year extension to his contract at parent club Middlesbrough, but has not ruled out a future return to the Amex Stadium.

Carayol, 26, had been out for 13 months with a cruciate ligament injury before the move to Albion in March and has made five appearances.

His deal was set to expire this summer.

"I've agreed a contract with Middlesbrough already," Carayol told 91热爆 Sussex.

"But you never know what's lying ahead for the future, I'm open. You can't shut any doors in football."

His final game of the Seagulls spell came against Watford on Saturday, but Carayol returned to Boro on Tuesday and will be available for the remainder of the campaign.

"It is the best thing because he has recovered from a serious injury and had the opportunity to play some games at Brighton," Boro head coach

"He is now able to play for us in the play-offs. Muzzy has improved with us and can be a very important player for us in the future if he continues in the same way."

Boro signed Carayol from Bristol Rovers in August 2012 on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee and the Gambian has since played 54 games and scored 12 goals.

The full interview with Carayol will be broadcast on 91热爆 Tees Sport on Tuesday, 28 April, and can be heard again on the iPlayer.
