Exeter City 1-0 Cheltenham Town

  • Published

Exeter earned a first-ever win over Cheltenham as Robins boss Paul Buckle endured a bad return to his old club.

The home side had the best chance of the first half as Tom Nichols' brilliant solo effort was excellently stopped by Robins keeper Trevor Carson.

Terry Gornell wastefully dragged Cheltenham's best chance wide from 20 yards, before Nichols broke the deadlock with a stunning 25-yard drive.

Nichols was then once again denied by Carson late on.

Cheltenham Town boss Paul Buckle told 91热爆 Radio Gloucestershire:

Buckle on Exeter v Cheltenham

"It was a tight game, 0-0 at half time - which has been the same in all five games since I've been at the club - which I was delighted with.

"Exeter are a very good side, you can see why they're in the play-off area and I thought we contained them really well.

"It was tough (losing) Matty (Taylor) so early - the captain - and (Joe) Hanks in the middle, so we had to change, but the boys that came on did really well and I would say that's our best performance since I've been at the club."
