England manager Roy Hodgson says Tuesday's friendly against Scotland at Celtic Park will not descend into a physical battle.

Scotland boss Gordon Strachan described his side's 1-0 win over Republic of Ireland in a Euro 2016 qualifier as "like a heavyweight boxing match".

But Hodgson said: "It will be competitive and hard fought. Each challenge will be well competed.

"But it won't be especially physical. Scotland aren't that type of team."

He added: "I am hoping it will be a competitive game between two football teams. Scotland set their stall out to play football like we do."

Hodgson is expected to make changes from the side which beat Slovenia 3-1 at Wembley on Saturday.

First-choice goalkeeper Joe Hart will be rested, with Southampton's Fraser Forster or West Brom's Ben Foster in line to replace him.

And Hodgson said the possible selection of Forster will not be a result of the game being played at the home ground of his former club Celtic.

"If I choose Fraser it won't be for sentimental Celtic reasons, but because he deserves a start," said Hodgson.

"Ben also deserves a start. I am sure both would like to play and I will disappoint one of them."
