Former Northern Ireland striker Warren Feeney has emerged as the new favourite to land the job as David Jeffrey's successor at Linfield.

The Blues have turned their focus to the assistant at non-league Salisbury City after failing to land their number one target Pat Fenlon.

The club board will meet on Tuesday night with a three-man committee expected to recommend Feeney.

The 33-year-old former Bournemouth player won 46 caps for N Ireland.

Feeney's former clubs also include Stockport County, Luton Town, Oldham Athletic and Plymouth Argyle.

Former Linfield player Fenlon was the early front-runner to replace Jeffrey, who will step down at the end of the season after 17 years in charge at Windsor Park.

Former Shelbourne, Derry City and Bohemians manager Fenlon resigned as Hibernian boss in November.

Feeney's former Northern Ireland strike partner David Healy, who is a Linfield fan, has also been linked with the Blues post despite having no managerial experience.
