Ballymena United players celebrate victory over Dungannon

Ballymena brought Dungannon's 100 per cent record to an end with a deserved Premiership victory at the Showgrounds.

Allan Jenkins headed in from Alan Teggart's corner on 14 minutes before Johnny Taylor saw his backpost header saved by Gareth Buchanan.

Darren Boyce levelled with a low free-kick after 61 minutes but Shane Dolan's close-range finish put the hosts ahead again within 60 seconds.

Alan Davidson wasted a chance to add a third when his penalty hit the bar.

Dungannon rarely threatened and they were restricted to long-range efforts with James Costello firing over and Francis Brennan wide with his shot.

Boyce's equaliser came against the run of play but Dolan quickly restored United's lead and Davidson was denied by the woodwork after a foul on Teggart.

The Sky Blues easily held on to record a first win against Dungannon at the Showgrounds in 12 attempts.

"We've not a great record against Dungannon and it's one we were determined to put right - it was a deserved win," said goalscorer Jenkins.

"Beating Crusaders last weekend was a great boost and we were hoping to keep that form going into this game.

"The manager (Glenn Ferguson) has been preaching to us midfielders about scoring goals so it was nice to get us off to a great start."
