Continental Cup: Arsenal into final after emphatic win over Everton

Arsenal put themselves in line for a hat-trick of Continental Cup triumphs as a 4-0 semi-final win over Everton set up a meeting with Lincoln in October's final.

Jordan Nobbs opened the scoring with a long-range finish, before Danielle Carter struck from 12 yards.

Ellen White turned home Rachel Yankey's cross for Arsenal's third before half-time.

Steph Houghton swept home a fourth after the break to wrap up the victory.

Lincoln beat Liverpool on penalties in the other semi-final earlier in the week to secure their place in October's showpiece.

Having won the Women's Super League's knock-out competition in each of its first two seasons, the Gunners had a third final booked by half-time of the semi.

It took them just eight minutes to open the scoring when Nobbs raced on to a Yankey pass to send a 25-yard lob over goalkeeper Lizzie Durack.

For the visitors, midfielder Michelle Hinnigan twice went close with good headers as Everton threatened to force their way into the game.

But striker Carter doubled Arsenal's lead when she latched on to winger Yankey's 35th-minute through-ball to shoot home from 12 yards.

And Yankey was again the provider for the third goal, right winger White controlling the ball before firing an 18-yard shot in off the post.

Yankey was replaced at half-time by Gemma Davison - and the substitute promptly set up the fourth goal with a cross swept in by Houghton.

Everton battled gamely through the final half-hour, but there was never any danger of Arsenal letting the game out of their grasp.
