Wayne Rooney: Manchester United striker may play in Sweden

Manchester United manager David Moyes expects Wayne Rooney to play against Swedish side AIK Fotboll on 6 August.

Rooney, who Moyes says will not be sold despite speculation about the striker's future, flew home from Thailand earlier in July with a hamstring injury.

The 27-year-old had spent just 24 hours on the pre-season tour but is expected to return for the friendly in Sweden.

"I do expect Wayne to be in Stockholm. As far as I know he is coming on," the United manager said.

"He has started light jogging and the feedback from the physios is that he is progressing, so hopefully those dates will still be right when we get back."

Moyes has again insisted Rooney, who has been subject to a bid from United's Premier League rivals Chelsea, is not for sale.

"We have said, and the club have said, he is not for sale. That has not changed," he said after United were defeated 3-2 by Yokohama F Marinos in a pre-season friendly in Japan.

Rooney claims to have been left angered and confused by recent messages coming out of Old Trafford, most noticeably when Moyes hinted that Robin van Persie is his main striker at the club.

The former Everton striker has expressed his disappointment with his situation to senior figures at the club and insisted he will not accept a squad role behind the Dutchman.

Rooney has not featured for United since a substitute appearance in the 1-0 defeat by Chelsea on 5 May and missed the final two Premier League games of last season.
