Defender Steven Douglas has agreed a one-year contract with Coleraine after being released by Linfield.

The 35-year-old joins the Premiership club after it was revealed that long-serving centre-back Kyle McVey was to leave the Ballycastle Road outfit.

"With Kyle moving on I wanted to bring in someone with a bit of experience," said Coleraine manager Oran Kearney.

"I think this is the first time I've signed someone over the age of 30 in all the time I've been at Coleraine."

"Steven has seen it all in the Irish League, he spent ten seasons at Linfield and won everything he could possibly win in the local game," added Kearney.

"I know him well having played with him for several years and travelled with him in that time and he'll be a great character to have in the changing room.

"At the same time, he is still an excellent defender and he has a wealth of experience which our younger defenders can learn from and I feel they will find playing and training with him very beneficial for their development."

The news comes as another boost for the Showgrounds club, following the decision of Stephen Lowry to reject a move to Linfield and remain at Coleraine.
