Burnley have released long-serving midfielder Chris McCann, but have offered new deals to striker Martin Paterson and defender Michael Duff.

McCann, 25, made his debut for the Clarets in 2005 and played 269 times for the club, scoring 31 goals.

Duff, 35, has signed a one-year deal at Turf Moor, while fellow Northern Ireland international Paterson, 26, has been offered new terms.

They are now the only two survivors from Burnley's 2008-09 promotion squad.

McCann made 58 appearances that season, scoring eight goals in all competitions, as Owen Coyle's side reached the last four of the League Cup and went up to the Premier League via the play-offs.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Tom Heaton became manager Sean Dyche's first signing on Friday.

Heaton will join from Bristol City on 1 July, having agreed a two-year contract with the Championship outfit to replace , external and veteran Brian Jensen, who was released after a decade with the club.

Another goalkeeper, Jon Stewart, has also been allowed to leave, as have strikers Alex MacDonald and Wes Fletcher.

Youngsters Jack Errington, who underwent heart surgery earlier in the season, has had his present deal extended, while teenage striker Jason Gilchrist has been offered a professional contract after a prolific season for the youth team.
