Fenerbahce celebrate aggregate win against Lazio

Fenerbahce reached their first European semi-final after surviving a second-leg onslaught to draw 1-1 at Lazio.

Trailing 2-0 from the first leg in Turkey, the Italians halved the deficit through Senad Lulic's powerful header.

Caner Erkin's thunderbolt, Fenerbahce's first shot on target, saw them avoid defeat in Italy for the first time and reach the Europa League last four.

Uefa ordered the match to be played behind closed doors after finding Lazio fans guilty of racist abuse.

Fenerbahce had lost all six of their previous competitive matches in Italy, but Erkin's leveller ensured the same fate did not occur.

Lazio dominated from the start and every opportunity created in the first half fell to the home side.

Antonio Candreva shot straight at Fenerbahce goalkeeper Volkan Demirel and also smashed a spectacular volley over the crossbar.

The pattern of play continued after the break and two minutes after the restart Libor Kozak, the competition's leading goalscorer, headed over a glorious chance.

The goal arrived in the 60th minute when Lulic met Candreva's curling cross at the far post.

Fenerbahce were left rocking as Lazio continued to pile forward, but they survived as Erkin killed the home side's hopes with his equaliser in the 73rd minute.
