Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has criticised Belgium counterpart Marc Wilmots for playing captain Vincent Kompany against Macedonia on Tuesday.

Kompany, 26, has been out with a calf injury and the 1-0 World Cup qualifier win was his first game since January.

Mancini said: "He didn't play for us for 60 days and then he went to play for the Belgium team.

"I did not agree with this. I think sometimes some managers of national teams should understand the situation."

The 48-year-old City manager added: "This player plays for the club. The club, every month, pay his salary."

Mancini had hoped Kompany would make his return to competitive action against Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday but admits he may not be ready.

"I don't know if he is OK or not," said Mancini, speaking on Thursday. "One week before the international break, he was not fit to play for us."

However on Friday Kompany appeared to indicate he was fit, with the words: "They're ready to roll again".

Italian Mancini will have striker Sergio Aguero back after the Argentina international missed City's last three games with a knee injury.

"Sergio is OK," said Mancini. "I think he could be ready for Saturday."

Mancini also denied speculation linking him and Yaya Toure with moves away from the Etihad.

Mancini has been while midfielder Toure was with the Premier League club.

"They have a good manager and I stay here for a long time, like Yaya," said Mancini. "Yaya is one of the best players in the world and he will stay here for another three, four, five [years], I don't know. A long time."
