Glentoran secure a 3-1 victory over nine-man Knockbreda in the Irish Cup quarter-final between the sides.

Glentoran beat nine-man Championship Two side Knockbreda to book their place in the semi-finals of the Irish Cup.

Jay Magee scored from the penalty spot on 13 minutes after Jim O'Hanlon had been brought down inside the area.

Michael McClean volleyed through a ruck of players to level after 18 but Jim McMenamin scored an own goal on 53.

Stephen Curley was sent-off for two yellow cards on 58, Stephen Hislop was shown a straight red for headbutting on 61 and Andy Waterworth made it 3-1.

The Glens came into the game wary of a cup upset as their junior opponents had beaten them in a pre-season friendly last summer.

Magee's penalty eased any early nerves but McClean's equaliser following a Miguel Chines corner gave the home side hope.

Soon after, James Wright had a free-kick superbly tipped away by Morris but an own goal by McMenamin put the Glens on their way to victory.

Waterworth grabbed his side's third after 58 minutes.

"This was a potential banana skin for us and it wasn't a great performance by us, but the result was the important thing," said Glens manager Eddie Patterson.
