Cliftonville striker Liam Boyce has been named as the Northern Ireland Football Writers' Player of the Month for October.

Boyce scored four Premiership goals, during a run which has now stands at seven in as many games, as he helped the Reds to the top of the table.

Ballinamallard skipper Mark Stafford was second in the poll, with Crusaders midfielder Paul Heatley third.

"The whole team had a good month but we think we can get better," said Boyce.

"We're always told just to go out, play the game and don't pay attention to anything that's going on around us.

"I personally feel that I am not at my best yet but the partnership with Joe Gormley is going well," added the former Werder Bremen forward.

Cliftonville saw off a challenge from Glentoran to secure Boyce's signature when the Northern Ireland international returned to domestic football.
