Tommy Wright maintained his unbeaten run as Chesterfield caretaker boss with a home draw against Torquay.
Tendayi Darikwa shot across Gulls keeper Michael Poke and into the far corner to put Chesterfield ahead with his first goal for the club.
But Torquay replied through Rene Howe's shot from 12 yards three minutes later to take a deserved point.
Chesterfield had gone close in the first half when veteran striker Jack Lester headed wide at the back post.
VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Chesterfield caretaker manager Tommy Wright told 91热爆 Radio Sheffield:
"It was a game we should have won really, with the chances and possession we had.
"I thought we played well in the second half. Tendayi Darwikiwa scored his first goal for the club, then we made a silly mistake again.
"But I thought we came back and had one or two chances to win it.
"Once we got in front I thought we would go on and win it, so to concede was disappointing."
Torquay United manager Martin Ling told 91热爆 Radio Devon:
"First 20 minutes, we talked in the week about putting another pass into midfield before we passed it forward and I thought we executed it well. Then we went missing for the next 25 minutes if I'm honest.
"They got the upper hand, disappointing goal, they scored very, very early.
"A point away from home we're very happy with. The thing that's hurting us is the home draws.
"We asked a lot of questions of them today and moved the ball well, we played a more attacking system."
