On-loan Wolves midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has been ruled out for the rest of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in Saturday's 2-1 victory at QPR.

Frimpong, who limped off at Loftus Road after damaging his right knee, will now return to his parent club Arsenal.

The Arsenal youngster, 20, will see specialists in London over the next few days before undergoing surgery.

he said: "Bad news is I'm out for six to nine months."

He added: "I want to thank all the Wolves fans for their support since I've been here. I really hope Wolves stay up this season."

Prior to joining Mick McCarthy's side, Frimpong, who was due to remain at Molineux for the rest of the campaign, had made 14 appearances for Arsenal this season.

"Emmanuel is expected to be out for a number of months and will miss the remainder of this season," said a Wolves club statement.

"Everyone at Wolves would like to thank the midfielder for his efforts whilst at the club and join Arsenal in wishing him a swift recovery."

Frimpong, who suffered the same injury to his left knee in 2010, has been in the wars in his five appearances since joining Wolves on 31 December.

He damaged his eye in only his third game during last month's 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa, when he was struck by Stiliyan Petrov's boot attempting a diving header.
