Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that he turned down the chance to manage Northern Ireland on a part-time basis.

The Irish FA made an approach to the Swans a fortnight ago but Rodgers is committed to the Welsh club and he believes the job must be full-time.

"I didn't have to think about it for a long time, my concentration and focus is always with Swansea," said Rodgers.

"The job is a big job and for me it's a full-time post."

He added: "The story was simple, a couple of weeks ago Northern Ireland approached the chairman and asked for permission to speak to me with regards to doing the job part-time, and my stance was the same as it was a number of weeks ago.

"I would love to do it at some point in my career but at the moment, with the respect I have for Swansea, my concentration can only be on Swansea."

The Irish FA is understood to have drawn up a shortlist of around six names for the vacant Northern Ireland manager's job.

Jim Magilton, Michael O'Neill, Iain Dowie, Gerry Armstrong and former Cardiff and Southampton manager Dave Jones are believed to be on the list.

It is believed the interview process will begin next week.

The manager's first away game will be against Holland in Amsterdam on 2 June.
