Daryl Fordyce is to leave Glentoran for Big Two rivals Linfield after agreeing terms with the Blues.

The 24-year-old striker informed Glens boss Scott Young that he was moving to the Premiership champions during negotiations over a contract extension.

"Accordingly, the club have retracted any contract offers and the player will be released immediately," said Glentoran on Friday.

The former Northern Ireland U21 international joined the Glens in 2007.

Fordyce moved to the Oval after being released by Portsmouth.

He played for Pompey reserves for thee years and had a loan spell with Bournemouth.

A statement by manager David Jeffrey on the Linfield FC website confirmed that the player was joining the champions.

"I can confirm that Daryl Fordyce will be joining Linfield," said Jeffrey.

"However, I am bewildered, confused and disappointed that Glentoran felt the need to announce a Linfield signing to the press (regardless of the fact that Daryl has been a Glentoran player)," he added.
