Performers wanted to entertain at carnival concerts

Fancy strutting your stuff on stage? If so, then the organisers of the Guy Fawkes carnival concerts want to hear from you!

Performers are being sought to take part in the annual Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival concerts.

Vocalists, musicians, comedians, magicians, jugglers and dancers are all wanted to appear in the popular annual show which will take place between 5 and 17 October, and which will attract an expected audience of 5,000 people.

The purpose of the front of curtain acts is to entertain the audience in between the performances by the 13 Bridgwater carnival clubs, and auditions for the highly prestigious spots will take place at Bridgwater Town Hall on Tuesday 24 March.

The concerts are a tradition which dates back to 1883.

Dave Stokes, publicity officer for Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, said: "If last year's auditions are anything to go by, then the judges will have an extremely difficult task in selecting the acts that will go through to the concerts."

At the 2008 carnival concerts, successful front of curtain acts included: Ben Filler who scooped awards for best single vocalist and the Reg Dyer personality cup, Kate Goodridge-Griffiths and Poppy Duncan who won the Bert Snook Rose Bowl trophy for the best under 17 front of curtain act.

Viva La Diva (Louise Phillips, Ria Jeffreys, Katy Gunningham, Claire Taylor and Emily Meek) were awarded the George Bown cup for best song, dance, music or novelty act, Dave Darling won the Arthur Rainey cup for the best comic act, and Darren Oxman and Craig Andrew took the best vocal act (two people or more) award.

Interested entertainers who think they have got what it takes and would like to audition, need to apply by contacting Rita Jones on 01823 251429, rita@bridgwatercarnival.org.uk or by completing the relevant application form on Bridgwater Carnival's official website (link to听 the right of this page), and sending it back to Rita at 60 Clifford Avenue, Taunton, Somerset, TA2 6DL.

The closing date for applications is Saturday 14 March.
