That's not Harris - there's vegetation in the photo. Harris is like being on the moon.

What an idylic garden!

ooh, calumbluebell, them's fighting words them! i've photos showing copious foliage in Harris. Female staff sent her father to visit her in laws a few years back to have a rest for his health, 2 days in he was out planting trees - true the growing is slow - but as far as i know there are definitely no trees on the moon!

ah--more lost souls who have found out about blogging!!do you know what you have let yourselves into? enjoy your sanity while you still have it!

tws's weather girl from where its b****y windy

With a name like doitalldave you will give Fred in Lewis a run for his money in the DIY stakes ,As for us poor old Shapinsay bloggers we are plodding along trying to get our roof finished , 2 yrs into the project but still smiling . I wish you good luck and photos of the progress are of course expected

Barebraes from Shapinsay

Yes, Dave, you could team up with Fred from Lewis. Together you could do all the work required in the whole of Lewis and Harris in double-quick time, and still have time for hobbies! Your garden is lovely.

Jill from EK

wow your locals sound friendly, the most i've done with my locals is put the bins out and catch the bus!! lol I'm glad to hear you are being included, good luck with your house.

tanith from point

calumbluebell, lewis may be fertile but i find it very flat and bland, tell me why did you move there! thank you plaid but its not my garden thats just a picture of the bridge i made

david perry from harris

Good luck, doitalldave. I see you have your priorities right and are starting with the garden. Nothing wrong with Fred's priorities either: he's got his chicken coop, and chickens. When you get to the bathroom, don't bother asking Fred where he got his hydroshower: seems to be a State Secret (eh, Fred?! You come to southern Indiana, and you'll be dipping into the Blue River meboy!).

I'm sure that you're lovely person Tanith but friendliness is a 2-way process. Most of us on IB are locals, albeit with different lengths of residency from lifelong to recent. Generally we include that full range from shy to extrovert when it comes to providing unofficial social services. It sounds as if Doitalldave is a friendly chap himself and it's great that he's made an effort to fit in by joining in some activities such as helping with the sheep.

It's interesting to hear about newcomers and renovation projects Dave and I wish you all the very best with the venture, but - amazing as it might seem - some of us were actually born here so didn't choose to move ; )

Annie B from the usual

Don't blame you for being rooted, Annie-B. By the way, Annie-B., just being nosey, did you go away for education or such? Guess I am trying to figure out where your imagination and sense of fun come from: genetic? local? from education of a certain type? from travel and an open mind? Gee, I must be paying you a backhand compliment here, Annie-B. # Oh, and hello Doitalldave. Blog hijacking is quite common on ib, as you will quickly realize.

I'm guessing AnnieB was educated at the Nocolson Institute...or certainly some sort of institute...

Doitalldave: has life on Harris come to a complete stand-still? Are you hibernating already?!
