heared about deer whistles a couple of years ago but they seem to have died a death, which is what i wish the bloody deer would do, they are a nightmare on the road at night.... maybe we could spray paint them with dayglow paint !!!

I am trying to picture this whistle "thingy" in my mind. So,.. on a rainy, wind swept night on the road to Mallaig, a person (or passenger) sticks the head out of the winow and blows for the whole journey to frighten the deer...yes that will work, I think. They do have television up there...right? Enjoy the site .

I have come up with an idea to repel deer from any automobile. A speaker is rigged to the outside of the car, through which a recording of shotgun blasts is played. The deer will obviously avoid the area that the gunshots are coming from. Does anyone know how to register a patent?

Re. deer-related road accidents, there's a national project aimed at "assessing factors associated with deer RTAs, aspects of deer behaviour and management in order to investigate and enhance measures aimed at preventing such accidents". I'm sure any data provided to this via http://www.deercollisions.co.uk (where RTA details etc can be recorded) would be greatly received - and may help avoid such incidents in the longer term...

a few years back, we had deer whistles here which i faithfully put on my car (they were the stick on variety) don't know if they worked, but i never hit a deer although we are overrun with them. the only problem is that the whistles got knocked off in the car wash so i was always replacing them.

I travelled up to Scourie last Sunday in a car with a deer whistle on the roof. It did my head in -felt like a bad attack of tinnitus all the way. Saw no deer though!

First purchase when moving to Skye was a deer whistle. Must have worked on the grounds I never had a single accident on the Isle.... I just wish they could invent the equivalent for tourists who wander aimlessly into the road seeking a better view of the scenery

Deer whistles fitted to the bumper of the car do help. My view on deer on the roads MOTORISTS slow down, the speed some travel at on our rural roads is a recipe for disaster,do not forget the sheep either.

Alot of deer about around the Lusa area (Suicide Alley) on A87, particularly in this cold weather. Pity the motorists don't get the hint about the damage hitting a deer can do to your motor - so SLOW DOWN!

I always fit a deer whistle to our family cars - incidentally not just to 'repel' deer but also foxes, rabbits etc. Recently whilst driving across the Cairn O Mount road from Banchory to Laurencekirk in a work vehicle I hit and killed a deer which I caught in the last seconds out the corner of my eye leaping across a wall straight into my path. I am sure had I had a deer whistle fitted or been driving my own car the deer would not have leapt the wall resulting in it's death and 拢2,500 damage to my work vehicle.

I really want a deer whistle as I can't bear the thought of killing anything. Neither would I like to kill myself or other passengers in my car! I'm going to get one asap!!!
