food for thought

Found this picture of a stag i saw at Loch Skipport a while ago. They are soo tasty but not so easy to catch. A good rifle i suppose is whats needed, enticing them to your boot with some sheep nuts doesnt work as i found one hungry night. The gamekeeper wouldnt be too happy about that though.
Though i wonder if us islanders who now own South Uist have a right to the wild animals roaming the hills. Surely the new Republic of South Uist would allow the inhabitants a few deer for the freezer and maybe some salmon and trout from the lochs too. After all i believe that Norway allows its inhabitants some rights. I really will need to find out so that i can leave space in the freezer after i finish the sausages i bought in the Coop on special offer a few months ago.

I did find the novel Animal Farm insightful. It should be prescribed reading for budding politicians.

Yes, I think that us native people should have special rights. It's unfair that forigners and rich people hunt our deer and salmon. So fill up your freezer.

A beast from the hill, a fish from the burn and a stick from the wood. Every hielan' gentleman's right. At least that's what I think I was taught.

My dad was a well known (and damn fine!) poacher who taught me a thing or two about it. I was brought up to believe every native Scot has the right to feed himself and his family from the land of their birth. I am fond of venison as well, so if you`re ever over Sanday way.......;-)
