Lard

Sunny mentioned one of my very favourite ingredients in her dating profile, so I thought she'd like a copy of this lovely snap that I have on my kitchen wall near the Raeburn.

They all still look a bit on the scrawny side, but couldn't that Lulu lassie learn a thing or two from this happy wee family?

Is that Ruth Kelly?

Very lard di da - we could only afford seal fat in our tigh dhu! It gave the scones a very Atlantic taste.

My dad ordered one of those Raeburn stoves out of JD's catalogue. His spelling isn't very good. They sent him a pair of designer sunglasses instead. Any bids? Is the the sort of exposee of life in Harris that you are looking for?

Thank you for the update on the benefits of Lard. What about Spam ? - it too is making a come back. The childhood memories it brings back.....It came out of the tin in one big solid block. Now is that not value for money - and no waste. Particularly tricky were the wee keys you had to manipulate to get the tin open. Followed by the razor sharp edges that then had to be avoided to squeeze that block of succulence out.

Lard is rich is Omega 7s, anti-oxidisers, thiasoflavins, is rich is Fibre and replaces essential-oils in the skin. Lard is a wonderful life shortening food, which means you won't have to spend 20 years in a home watching countdown and wondering why you kept using olive oil.

Lard, rich in Omega 7s from Unhealthy looking nutritionalist

Ah. Spam! What a fine subject to raise Bigheid. A shop bought, luxury food, but tasty and no mistake - and a handy standby if you've got the paramedics available for the tricky bit where the razor-ribbon of metal wraps round the key to open the tin and slices through your fingers. I've still got a scar on my thumb from a Spam-related injury. Honest. No kidding. Have you seen their latest ad, featuring a romantic, cande-lit anniversary meal with Spam? Now that's what I call romance!

Thank you for solving one of life's mysteries. LIFE shortening. I always wondered why the fat in baking was called shortening.

Long before Jamie Oliver piped up about school dinners, Olive the Bash Street Kids' school cook decided to introduce healthy food. Her first dinner menu was a lard salad. Good old Olive.

Oh no. There seems to be a problem with the Spam filter.

So much to learn... What on earth's a Spam filter? Is it a Lakeland plastics 'must-have' kitchen gadget or is it some part of the blood-transfusion kit needed for Spam-tin-related first aid?

Annie B from Lone Sheiling

I like to squish SPAM with my toes. It has texture like nobody knows. Though I do like to eat it I'd rather mistreat it But I will not put SPAM in my nose!

Scott Jeffrey from Limerick

You can get Spam Shredders and Spam Managers too Annie.

Where do job adverts appear for Spam Managers? I think I could do a job like that. I'm very clued up about best before dates on the tins and suchlike. (To be fair, I think that even Chrissie Mary could be a Spam Manager.)

Annie B from Lone Sheiling

Don't know about best before dates but I'm very clued up on bars and their codes. Most Spam Managers jobs are advertised in the People's Friend, Heat Magazine and Tuesday's Guardian There is usually a pull out supplement the fifth week in February in the Dundee Courier with jobs in the reconstituted meat industry. Hope that helps
