Jason Yarde began playing saxes in the Jazz Warriors at 16, going on to direct and become a principal writer. As a producer, musical director, arranger and musician, he has a wide musical net: Hermeto Pascoal to 4hero, Plan B to Britten Sinfonia, Keziah Jones to Kronos Quartet, Wretch 32 to Wonderbrass and Jonzi-D to Jack DeJohnette. Appearing in the big bands of Sam Rivers, Pascoal, McCoy Tyner, Manu Dibango, Jason Moran, Guy Barker and Andrew Hill, his own projects range from solo with fx through TRiO !WAH! to 10 piece, ACOUTASTiC BOMBASTiC. As a record producer his credits include Gwilym Simcock’s ‘Perception’, Empirical’s ‘Out’n’In’ and a large part of the catalogue of UK independent, Dune Records, including Denys Baptiste’s Let Freedom Ring! and Soweto Kinch’s Conversations With The Unseen (nominated for a 2003 Mercury Music Award). His flugelhorn concerto, ALL SOULS SEEK JOY was premiered by Hugh Masekela and the LSO in 2007 and his 91Èȱ¬ Proms compositional debut, RHYTHM AND OTHER FASCINATIONS for piano trio and the 91Èȱ¬ Concert Orchestra, won the inaugural BASCA award for contemporary Jazz Composition in 2009. 2013 saw two large scale brass and percussion works come to life with the McCormack & Yarde Duo performing alongside the LSO in MODO HIT BLOW and BOLD AS BRASS saw 100 performers with a variety of backgrounds and ability take over London’s Southbank Centre.
