Mezzo-soprano - born 1981

Loriana Castellano studied at the Music Conservatory and the Basilica University in Matera and at the Tito Schipa Music Conservtory in Lecce before studying baroque repertoire with Edward Smith and Sara Mingardo at the Cappella della Pietà dai Turchini in Naples. She won the A Belli Competition in 2010 and the Toti dal Monte Competition in 2012.

Recent performances include Bradamante Alcina with Le Parlement de Musique de Strasbourg and Martin Gester; Zelinda in the modern premiere of Myslivecek’s Medonte with L’Arte del Mondo led by Werner Ehrhardt (recorded for Sony/DHM); Abra in Vivaldi’s Juditha Triumphans at the Soli Deo Gloria Festival, Braunschweig and at the Festival de Beaune, with Modo Antiquo and Federico Maria Sardelli; Vivaldi’s Catone in Utica with Modo Antiquo and Sardelli at the Theater an der Wien and at the Opera Rara Festival in Krakow; Stravinsky’s Pulcinella with the Netherlands Radio Chamber Orchestra conducted by Thierry Fischer in Utrecht and Annina La traviata at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo.

This season, Loriana’s projects include Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater in Bolzano and Trento, Fidalma Il matrimonio segreto in Ferrara and Rovigo, Britten’s Cabaret Songs at the Collegium Musicum, Bari and baroque concerts in Leverkusen and Berlin.

Loriana enjoys cooking, riding, swimming and football.

The emperor Titus and Sesto are best friends, and in the classic love triangle, Sesto loves Vitellia, Vitellia loves Titus, Titus loves someone else. Cinderella sums up the events of the fairy-tale and tells how she has won good fortune. She tells her family to dry their disappointed tears, and share in her happiness with her new-found prince. In the cabaletta she declares that she will no longer sit sadly beside the hearth.
