James May

Aside from being a proper grown-up car journalist, James is also an accomplished pianist and a qualified pilot.

When he joined the Top Gear team in 2003, he brought a thoughtful new element to the show, along with his sensitive hair and an exciting range of brightly coloured shirts.

James is never happier than finding out how something works, be it plane, train, automobile or Meccano set. He’s travelled to the edge of space in a Lockheed U2, built a full size house out of Lego for Toy Stories and learned how to disarm a WWII bomb for James May’s Man Lab.

For Building Cars Live James is going to be in his element discovering exactly how a car is born. He’ll explore the evolution of mass production, bust the myth that British manufacturing is dead and make friends with an army of robots.
