鈥業t gives me a purpose鈥
Sir Chris Hoy was diagnosed with terminal Prostate Cancer at the age of 47.
He told 5 Live鈥檚 Jeanette Kwakye why it is so important for men to get themselves checked as early as possible.
鈥極ne in eight men will get prostate Cancer at some stage in their life. But I think the perception is that it鈥檚 an old man鈥檚 disease. But it can start early鈥.
The cycling legend also explained why a key motivator for him has been the rise in men including one of his close friends who are now getting checked and diagnosed early enough to be treated because of the awareness he鈥檚 raised of Prostate Cancer.
鈥業t pushes me on and it gives me a purpose. It makes you realise that you鈥檙e not alone, it makes you realise that you can make a difference. Its wonderful to see that there鈥檚 positivity in this really difficult situation鈥.
