Appeal Update (October 2019)
The final activity session funded by ‘The 91Èȱ¬ Radio Bristol Alive Appeal’ has taken place.
Thanks to your generosity the appeal smashed its £33,000 target and raised £39,942.21.
This amazing amount funded 366 activity sessions in care homes and day centres – as well as memory boxes which will continue to be used by the charity ‘Alive’ to spark conversations and bring activities to life.
The appeal made a real difference to the lives of older people where we live – so thanks again for your support.
Weekend Walkies
Emma Britton and her dog Billy the Beagle hosted four dog walks for ‘The 91Èȱ¬ Radio Bristol Alive Appeal’ over the weekend of Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 February 2019.
They walked at the Blaise Castle Estate in Bristol, Royal Victoria Park in Bath, The Ridings in Chipping Sodbury and on Weston-super-Mare Beach.
Dogs of all shapes and sizes took part from a toy poodle to Irish wolfhounds.The 91Èȱ¬ Radio Bristol Christmas Celebration 2018
The 91Èȱ¬ Radio Bristol Christmas Celebration 2018 took place on Wednesday 19 December at the Anson Rooms in Clifton, Bristol.
The festive evening was in aid of ‘The 91Èȱ¬ Radio Bristol Alive Appeal’ and was hosted by Breakfast Show presenter Emma Britton with other presenters from the radio station delivering Christmas readings.
The line-up featured The Bristol Suspensions, The Big Act Academy of Performing Arts, the Black Sheep Harmony Ladies Chorus, John Prescott, Horning Glory, Saint Loe and Musical Director Matt Finch.
Joe Lemer's '12 Hour Danceathon'
Joe Lemer definitely knows how to throw some shapes! He swapped a radio studio for a stage on Friday 30 November 2018 when he took on his '12 Hour Danceathon' for 'The 91Èȱ¬ Radio Bristol Alive Appeal'.
Joe danced to 12 different musical themes and wore 12 different fancy dress outfits during the challenge which started at 8am and finished at 8pm at the Winter Wonderland at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway.
Joe was joined by some impressive dancers throughout the day - including a very special guest - Father Christmas!
The 24 Hour Random Radio Relay
'The 24 Hour Random Radio Relay' for 'The 91Èȱ¬ Radio Bristol Alive Appeal' took place from 7pm on Thursday 25 October 2018.
Emma Britton, John Darvall, Geoff Twentyman and Joe Lemer didn't know who would be in the presenter's chair until one of them was randomly selected at the start of each hour.
There were many visitors to the studios over the 24 hours - including alligators, pygmy goats, yoga experts and a barista.
The presenters took on a pub quiz on Thursday evening, went through the musical decades overnight and had to complete a shopping challenge on Friday lunchtime.
Geoff Twentyman's 'Big Sport Quiz'
Geoff Twentyman's 'Big Sport Quiz' in aid of 'The 91Èȱ¬ Radio Bristol Alive Appeal' took place at 'The Bristol Pavilion' at Gloucestershire County Cricket Club on Thursday 11 October 2018.
Geoff was joined by two teams of West Country sporting stars and they battled it out to be crowned champions of the quiz.
One team was captained by Bath Rugby's Freddie Burns - with Bristol Rovers Manager Darrell Clarke and racing driver Dino Zamparelli.Â
The other was led by former Bristol City Manager Gary Johnson - with Somerset Cricket’s Pete Trego and Olympic medal winning snowboarder Jenny Jones.
Emma Britton’s ‘Couch to 5K’
She did it! Emma Britton completed her ‘Couch to 5K’ challenge for 'The 91Èȱ¬ Radio Bristol Alive Appeal' by doing the Chipping Sodbury parkrun on Saturday 6 October 2018.
Emma used to say that she only ran when the cake shop was closing - but she started her 'Couch to 5K' training in early August and did 26 training sessions ahead of the parkrun.
She was supported on the day by a group of people - including '401 marathons in 401 days' runner Ben Smith from Portishead, running coach Chris Kay, ultramarathon runner John Reynolds and Debbie Williams.
Emma dealt with back pain, sweat and tears during the challenge and was overwhelmed by the messages of support she received.
John Darvall’s ‘Skydive for Alive’
A massive congratulations to John Darvall who faced his fear and completed his ‘Skydive for Alive’ on Wednesday 26 September 2018.
He was strapped to instructor Neil for the skydive in aid of 'The 91Èȱ¬ Radio Bristol Alive Appeal'.
They jumped out of the plane at 15,000 feet above Dunkeswell Airfield.
John worked with a psychologist in the run-up to the tandem skydive because of a fear of falling - a fear that had led to him avoiding heights at all costs.
Eat Cake Friday
'Eat Cake Friday' took place on Friday 31 August 2018.
From university staff to police officers and companies - people enjoyed eating cake in aid of 'The 91Èȱ¬ Radio Bristol Alive Appeal'.
Britton's Big Night Out
'Britton's Big Night Out' in aid of ‘The 91Èȱ¬ Radio Bristol Alive Appeal’ took place at The Playhouse, Weston-super-Mare on Wednesday 18 July.
The evening featured sensational singers, cracking comedy, great guests and an amazing audience.
