‘With boy bands you risk getting into diminishing returns’
One Direction’s “break” from next March will give the hit boy band a chance to “pursue solo careers, act and do all things they haven’t had time to do over the last five years,” says the journalist who broke the story.
“What they’ve wanted to do is go out when they’re on top,” said The Sun’s Head of Showbiz Dan Wootton.
“Usually when a band starts to break up it’s the beginning of the end,” he added, referring to the departure of Zayn Malik in March.
“With boy bands you risk getting into diminishing returns.”
Harry Styles was receiving significant interest from Hollywood and people keen to develop his solo career, said Mr Wootton, and there was already talk of Louis Tomlinson having a role in next year’s X Factor.
“Their fan base will be waiting to see what they do next.”
“Take That went away for almost a decade and then came back bigger and stronger.”
