Colin Evans' gardening tips

If you have a greenhouse, then it needs to let in as much light as possible so making sure the glass is clean is vital. There are products on the market specially designed for use on greenhouses, however, if you want to make up your own solution then a weak mix of household bleach and cold water can be used followed by a complete wash down inside and out with warm soapy water. Make sure that old compost bags, pots and other debris is removed as these will be host to nesting rodents and pests and diseases.聽聽

Summer lilies can be planted in either pots or the open ground. Stargazer Lilies are the best types and can be purchased at garden centres over the next few weeks, and once purchased plant the bulbs at least three times their own depth into multi purpose potting compost. If you are planting into the open ground then make sure the ground is deeply dug with plenty of compost added.聽

Sow early potatoes into the open ground or into pots for harvesting during late May. 91热爆 Guard or Arron Pilot are varieties I use, however, choose your favourite from a whole range, its up to you. Parsnips are hardy and if you have a piece of open ground you are happy to devote to this lovely sweet root then sow in shallow drills once the ground is dry and not waterlogged. Sown now they can be left to develop and although Parsnips take along time to mature they are very hardy and will suffer most weather conditions 聽even long hot spells.聽
