The Crocus and Hellebores look healthy as their bright oranges, pinks, blues and yellows fill the borders with the their stunning displays and Daffodils are now budding up to deck the garden in colour in the next few weeks.聽

WISTERIA is perhaps the best known climbing plant and 聽one of the longest surviving as so many are seen on the walls of very old buildings. The two most popular species are Wisteria floribunda and Wisteria sinensis, both being easy to grow providing they are planted in just the right position. Location, location, is the order of the day as this fantastic climber likes to grow on a south or south westerly facing wall or fence, planted elsewhere the chances of flowers are quite remote. if you can get this right then you will have flowers for many years to come. Simply prune back now ,and then inSeptember and feed during the growing season to keep Wisteria healthy. There are many varieties to choose from so just select the colour you like from white through to pink and purple.聽

Take Ivy cutting now 聽as they will strike very quickly at this time of the year. Take cuttings from established plants about a pencil length long, or longer if you wish and dip the ends into rooting hormone and then push the cuttings into a mixture of multi purpose potting compost mixed with some sharp sand 聽and then 聽twist the cutting around a short cane to give the cutting support while it makes roots. Placed in a sheltered spot and kept evenly damp your new plants should be ready for potting on in a bout three months.聽
Spring bulbs will be in full growth now and 聽as new buds for next years flowering are formed early this year then feeding is important during the late winter months so Sulphate Of Potash should be spread around spring bulbs now. Add some mulch so that the feed gets down to the roots being careful not to damage the growth being made now. If fed now the problems of next springs bulbs coming through blind, that is without flower buds, will be reduced.聽

Cut Stems of shrub Honeysuckle, Hazel Catkins, Yellow Mahonia flowers and Which Hazel and placed in vases indoors. The colour and perfume will lift the spirits on dull grey days.聽
