Charlie Hebdo shooting is 'attack on freedom', says analyst
Gunmen have attacked the Paris office of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, killing 12 people and wounding seven, French officials say.
The satirical weekly has courted controversy in the past 鈥 in November 2011 the magazine was firebombed a day after it carried a caricature of the Prophet Muhammad.
Parisian political analyst, Dominique Moisi, said the shooting was a 鈥渄eeply shocking鈥 attack on what made France a 鈥渇ree, open, democratic society鈥.
鈥淚t鈥檚 an attack on freedom to criticise anything, everyone,鈥 he said.
鈥淭his is the essence of what we are that they are choosing to attack in the most barbaric manner.鈥
