Nikki Fox 'walks' on her own for first time in 10 years

Nikki Fox, the 91Èȱ¬'s disability correspondent, has walked without help for the first time in 10 years, thanks to motorised robotic equipment.

The device, known as an exoskeleton, is strapped to the outside of a person's limbs and can then be controlled by them.

"My legs hadn’t been that straight since 1995," Nikki, who has muscular dystrophy, said. "What was quite unbelievable was how I felt afterwards. Standing for half an hour would usually be quite tough but it wasn’t.

"That evening I stood and stretched on my own for the first time in years."
