Eritrean migrant: They killed people in front of my eyes

An Eritrean migrant tells of his life-threatening journey across Europe to make the UK his home.

Wishing to remain anonymous, he tells Today's Chief Correspondent Matthew Price he was forced to join the military at the age of 17. At 30-years-old he says he was imprisoned by his government, beaten and tortured.

No wonder then when he was released from his cell earlier this year he decided to join the many men, women and children who have fled Eritrea, seeking safety.

Now he is one of the hundreds of thousands of people who have risked their lives to get to Europe, and some to the UK. There鈥檚 no reliable estimate of the number of irregular migrants who make it to this country, most arrive legally but then outstay their welcome.
