Wind Farms Delayed Because The Grid Can't Cope

The electricity network in Northants & elsewhere is not able to deal with the expansion in wind energy according to an energy company that's had one project delayed for 4 years.

There are eight wind farms across Northamptonshire that have been given the go ahead but are yet to be built.

One of these energy companies involved has told 91Èȱ¬ Radio Northampton that there are delays because the electricity network in Northamptonshire, and elsewhere in the country, is not equipped to deal with the expansion in wind energy.

Reporter Martin Heath visits a site earmarked for a 5 turbine site in Watford village, and Stuart talks to Matt Russell from Infinergy, the company behind the New Albion wind farm between the villages of Rushton and Pipewell which was given approval four years ago.

Stuart also talks to Reg Platt, an energy specialist at the Institute of Public Policy and Research, and to Councillor Bob Riley from Corby Borough Council.
