County Council To Put Council Tax Up For The First Time In 4 Years
Northants County Council wants to put council tax up for the first time in 4 years. It's part of the authority's latest budget which is now out for public consultation.
Council Tax in Northamptonshire is likely to go up as Northamptonshire County Council is planning to increase its tax rate by 1.99%. It will be the first time in 4 years that the authority's rate will go up.
But the Council says it will have to make savings of 拢128-million over the next 4 years. 拢20-million or so of those savings could come from Adult Social Care.
Councillor Jim Harker, the Leader of the Council, explains that increasing the council tax rise is necessary to protect front-line services, but it will still mean that Northamptonshire has the lowest council tax rate in the country. County Council Chief Executive Dr Paul Blantern says savings will come through planning Health and Adult Care services together.
Stuart talks to Councillor Bill Parker, who oversees the Council鈥檚 finances, to Labour Councillor Mick Scrimshaw, and to Liberal Democrat Councillor Brendan Glynane.
